Embrace the spirit of Christmas in Bath and plan a festive break or day out to the city – shop, eat out, and explore the UNESCO World Heritage spa city streets twinkling with lights. Whether you live locally or are coming from further afield, there are many activities and experiences to enjoy from early November right through until the new year.
Go for a skate at Bath on Ice in Royal Victoria Park or play a few rounds of Glow-in-the-Dark Mini Golf from 15th November–5th January. Afterwards, treat yourself to a delicious wood-fired pizza or a mug of indulgent hot chocolate at Moguls Alpine Bar.
Bath Christmas Market, starts on 28th November and runs until 15th December and brings the city-centre alive with its festive magic. The award-winning Market will be brimming with beautifully crafted, locally made gifts and produce, and Bath Abbey will be opening their doors for Shoppers’ Carols on Saturdays during Bath Christmas Market.
Once you’ve done all your Christmas shopping, pop along to the Bath BID Gift-Wrapping Station where expert wrappers will turn your purchases into presents ready to put under the tree. The service is free of charge with a suggested donation to support the work of local charity Julian House.
Be in awe of Bath’s tallest indoor Christmas tree bedecked with over 1,000 lights and handmade ornaments at The American Museum & Gardens. Step back in time at No.1 Royal Crescent to discover how Christmas was celebrated through the ages as the museum stay open late on selected dates in December.
Let your hair down at The Egg Theatre as you watch their shining musical version of the classic fairy tale, Rapunzel, or be swept up in the excitement of Beauty and the Beast, this year’s panto at Theatre Royal Bath. The Little Theatre Cinema will be showing festive film favourites in the lead up to Christmas, including The Grinch and The Muppet Christmas Carol.
Rest weary feet at the snow topped Après Ski Bar outside Abbey Hotel Bath, where they will be serving aromatic mulled wine and authentic Alpine appetisers or step into a cosy Christmas Tavern at The Bird, Bath where the vast fireplace laden with baubles, flickering fairy lights and spiced mulled drinks will instantly put you in a festive frame of mind.
Father Christmas’s Workshop is an immersive experience for all the family, taking place in a secret location in the city centre. Tickets are £12 per person and can be purchased from Bath Box Office.
Little ones can take a whirl on the enchanting Victorian Carousel in Stall Street from 19th – 29th December.
Get crafty with a Christmas paper cutting workshop at Julia Davey on 7th December or make your own wreath at The Gainsborough Bath Spa Hotel on 29th November.
Bath Christmas Market Experience
Make your trip to The Market even more special with a Bath Christmas Market experience. Try your hand at Christmas crafts and make a wreath with local florist Hannah Southfield in partnership with Julia Davey Events. Having worked up an appetite, indulge in a delicious Champagne set lunch at The Ivy Bath Brasserie. When you’re shopped off your feet, rejuvenate at Thermae Bath Spa and admire the city’s Christmas decorations from the steaming rooftop pool.
